Overview
The manual walks organisations through planning and setting up individually delivered self-help, adapting for context and culture, and preparing and supervising the workforce. It then offers practical chapters for helpers: what the role involves (and what it isn't — helpers are not counsellors or therapists), how to run welcome, regular and end contacts, protecting privacy, and managing imminent suicide risk and other safety concerns. Chapters 5 and 6 give module-by-module guidance for SbS (an online intervention for depression built around behavioural activation, delivered through an illustrated story) and DWM (a stress management intervention based on acceptance and commitment therapy, available as an illustrated book and web app in multiple languages). The annexes are a real asset: example scripts and text messages, troubleshooting templates, safety protocols, supervision templates, case note examples, and grounding and slow-breathing exercise scripts.
